Petaluma streets provide a canvas for local artists. The murals that grace buildings downtown are many and varied. Some are historical. Some are whimsical. Others are like large paintings of Sonoma County scenes. One of my favorite collections of murals is the one along American Alley. American Alley runs from Washington Street to Western Avenue between Petaluma Boulevard and Kentucky Street. The murals’ working-class theme fits right in with the “décor” of the alley, the backsides of the businesses that line the Boulevard and Kentucky Street.
